Description
Insect collection – Spider and others
Oligocene
Florissant Formation
Florissant, CO USA.
Three arthropods (12mm spider, 8mm beetle, 9mm beetle part and counterpart).
Yeah, we know. We’re calling it an “insect collection” even though there are just two beetles and an arachnid in it. What can I say? The marketing department got their way. This group comes from the famous Florissant locality in Colorado which still allows private collecting.
Beetles are an ancient order of insects dating back to the Early Permian while spiders go back even further with primitive forms known from the Pennsylvanian.
