Description
Pliocene
Orange County, CA, USA
13mm complete tooth.
Shark, Lamnidae.
This is a fossil tooth of a baby great white shark. You can tell this is a baby tooth not just because it still retains small lateral cusplets. It appears to be an upper anterior tooth. An adult tooth of this position would be around/at least 25mm (approx. 1 inch).
This tooth comes from an oddball site in California – the area of the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
