Description
Pterosaur bones – Nyctosaurus gracilis
Late Cretaceous
Niobrara Chalk
KS USA
Riker mount with 19 pterosaur wing pieces. Biggest 76mm,
smallest 15mm
Pterosaur. Rare.
Nyctosaurus is the smaller and less-famous pterosaur of the Niobrara Chalk. It had a wingspan of just under 2 meters as opposed to Pteranodon which had a wingspan of 3-6 meters.
Pteranodon remains are quite rare. You’d be extremely lucky to find an identifiable bone end of that but Nyctosaurus is at least two levels of rarity beyond that.
I wonder how much meat was on Pteranodon wings and what would be the best sauce for that?
