Sphenopyllum is a genus of extinct swampland plants that lived from the Late Devonian to the Early Triassic. It appeared when much of the land surface was dominated by lowland swamps. By the Early Permian world climates were trending drier restricting the range of groups of terrestrial organisms that had been thriving before.
