Description
Marrella splendens
Middle Cambrian
Burgess Shale, Stephens Formation
Field, British Columbia BC Canada
22mm, 18mm and 9mm on a single slab
Marrella is an extinct genus of arthropod apparently found almost exclsuively in the Burgess Shale although related forms (marrellamorphs) are known from elsewhere in place and in time.
While it’s been said to be most common animal in the Burgess Shale (it might as well be the logo), that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find on the market. It’s been in-demand since the 90’s. This one came out of an old collection and is one of the only examples we have ever seen of three Marrellas on a single slab
