Extremely rare 12mm amphipod on 75mm shale. Only the second fossil amphipod we have ever seen.
Amphipods belong to the Order Amphipoda, a group of crustaceans that live today in freshwater and marine environments – even the deep sea. Some of them have the common name, “sand fleas.”
This specimen comes from a site known for deepwater fishes.
