Chelotriton paradoxus

165mm salamander on 260mm matrix.
Chelotriton is an extinct genus of salamander known from the Miocene of eastern Europe. It belongs to the Family Salamandridae which includes forms that still live today in Asia.
Most salamander fossils are isolated jaw sections or vertebrae. Few sites preserve partial-to-complete skeletons of these animals with such delicate bones and the Gracanica site is one of them.
Here’s a fantastic specimen for the vertebrate collector who wants a display piece with a Cenozoic amphibian.
