Description

Naraoia sp.
Middle Cambrian
Wheeler Formation
House Range, Millard Co., Utah, USA

Fine 20mm soft-bodied trilobite

Naraoia is a genus of soft-bodied arthropods (Order Nektaspida) that had been classified as a trilobite by some; something like a crustacean by others.  This specimen is one of the earliest-known of a group that survived at least into the Late Silurian. The most famous specimens are found in the Burgess Shale, but American specimens like this are actually more rare.
