Description

Millipede
Pennsylvanian
Atrasado Formation, Tinajas Member
Kinney Brick Quarry, NM USA.

16mm (30mm outstretched) millipede on 37mm slab. Rare.

Arthropod. Myriapod.

Millipedes occur sporadically in the fossil record.  The earliest forms may date back to the Ordovician based on trace fossils but the earliest body fossils are known from the Late Silurian.

Here is a millipede from a lesser-known locality, and over the years, the quarry has not always been accessible to fossil collectors. It’s a great piece if you like oddball arthropods from oddball localities.
