Description
Rhenopterus sp.
Early Devonian
Rhineland, Germany
Eurypterid. Arthropod.
Huge, rare eurypterid from the German Rhineland. This region is famous for its amazing fossils but they are typically found in sandstones as hard as concrete and nearly impossible to prepare. This 11.8″ (295mm) eurypterid is a typical example. The plate measures 16″ x 19″ (230mm x 410mm) and is stabilized on the back with plastic to prevent fractures.
The scarcity of a Devonian eurypterid is unquestionable. This is the first of these we have seen for sale in 20 years so this is a rare opportunity to obtain a special piece. Its large size requires special shipping and handling. Call or email us for a quote to your destination.
Here the lovely Carolina provides classy scale for this eurypterid that seems to have died while trying to pull off an awesome dance move.
