Description

Carcharodontosaurus saharicus
Early Cretaceous
Tegana Formation
Taouz, Morocco

71mm theropod dinosaur tooth.

Paleontologists say it’s possible that the teeth of Carcharodontosaurus sawed through bone like those of Allosaurus.  With a powerful neck and the same serrated teeth as Allosaurus, it seems likely that it exhibited the same behavior.

Carcharodontosaurus includes some of the longest and heaviest known carnivorous dinosaurs.  Various scientists have proposed length estimates for C. saharicus in the 12 and 13.3 m (39 and 44 ft) range and weight estimates in the 6.2 and 15.1 metric ton range.
