Description
Siamotyrannus isanensis
Early Cretaceous
Sao Khua Formation
Northeast Thailand
Huge, extremely rare 3.7 inch (94mm) theropod tooth. Rarest dinosaur tooth we have ever had. First specimen we have had in 30 years. The generic name Siamese tyrant is derived from the old Thai kingdom of Siam, and a Latinised Greek tyrannus, meaning “tyrant”, presumed membership of the Tyrannosauridae. The specific name is derived from Thai isan, “northeastern part”, referring to the provenance from northeast Thailand.
