Description
Middle Miocene (Seldovian)
Sucker Creek Formation – Sucker Creek Flora
Malheur County, Oregon, USA
8mm nut on 55mm slab.
Plant. Seed.
This unidentified nut was deposited when the climate in Oregon was warmer than it is now. The Early to Middle Miocene was a warmer time than the Oligocene or the Late Miocene but it turned out to be just a geologically-brief interruption in an overall cooling trend that started in the Middle Eocene and led to the ices ages of the Pleistocene.
Here is an affordable specimen for the budding plant fossil collector or casual science enthusiast.
