Fundulus is a genus of bony fish that dates back to the Early-Middle Miocene of Nevada but is perhaps best known from the Pliocene of that state (Truckee Formation). The various species of this genus are commonly called “killifish” or “topminnows.” This specimen compares favorably to the modern Plains killifish, a river fish with tolerance for saltwater.
We’ve sold most of the ones we had because it’s oddball fish fossil from a lesser-known locality and the price isn’t bad either. I think it was on “Dino’s Top 10 Best Buys” of all the fossils for sale on the web last week.
