Description
Polyipnus sobnioviensis
Fish
Oligocene
Carpathian Basin, Sobniow, Poland
30mm deepwater fish on 60mm slab.
Polyipnus is a genus of marine hatchetfish of the Family Sternopthychidae. This specimen may represent the earliest occurrence of the genus which still lives today.
We used to have a number of specimens and they sold faster than we thought they would. It’s an oddball fish you’re not going to find in the Green River so it’s popular with collectors.
