Description
Late Jurassic (Tithonian)
Morrison Formation
Bone Cabin Quarry, Albany County, WY, USA
Ultra-rare 1mm mammal tooth.
Mammal,
While mammals were largely inconspicuous during the Jurassic Period, they were still diverse. It’s true that none of the modern mammal groups were present at the time but there were still forms that were gnawers, diggers, and swimmers. Almost all of those mammal groups of the Jurassic became extinct by the end of the Cretaceous but they were replaced by others that were the ancestral stock for the gnawers, diggers, runners, hunters, fliers, and swimmers we see today.
This kind of tooth appeals to the completist collector who wants whatever is available from the Morrison Formation and to the diehard mammal collector.
