Description

Chleuastochoerus linxiaensis
Late Miocene
Gansu Province, China

250mm skull on matrix. Very attractive display and extremely well prepped. Rare.

Mammal. Artiodactyl. Suidae. Pig.

Chleuastochoerus is an extinct genus belonging to the pig family. It is known from the Miocene to Pliocene of Russia and eastern Asia. Modern bushpigs are aggressive and not an easy kill even for a leopard. Those tusks are just as lethal as a leopard’s canines. Remember bushpigs have outlasted a revolving door of sabercats and other predators since the Late Miocene.

This specimen was nicely prepped on a piece of matrix and would be an excellent display piece to represent Late Miocene herbivores.
