Description
Late Eocene (Ludian)
Phosphorites de Quercy
La Bouffie, Quercy, France
Very rare 13mm primate jaw section with 3 excellent teeth.
Mammal, Primate.
Necrolemur is a genus of small-bodied primate known from the Late Eocene of Europe. It lived at a time when primates, once common in North America and Europe, were disappearing as dense tropical forests were being replaced by more open woodlands of cooler, drier climates. Like its relative, Pseudoloris, it was one of the last undisputed omomyid primates (Family Omomyidae), a group which may have been ancestral to modern tarsiers of southeast Asia.
This specimen bears three molars in a lower jaw section.
