Description
Huge horn coral
Devonian
Morocco.
Huge 240mm horn coral. Biggest we have seen.
Horn corals are an extinct group of the Order Rugosa. Some species were major reef-builders of the Paleozoic Era; others were solitary. They appeared by the Late Ordovician and they were still going strong to the end of the Permian. Only the most devastating mass extinction in the history of the earth could put an end to their run.
If you’re going to get a horn coral for your collection, it might as well be a giant one.
