Description
Eocene Flower – Amaryllidaceae
Eocene
Green River Formation
Kemmerer, Wyoming, USA
45mm on 115mm slab from the “split fish” layers.
These flowers are still undescribed, but are believed to be members of the Amaryllidaceae, commonly known as the amaryllis family. Living Amaryllidaceae consist of 75 genera and over 1600 known species. These fossils probably resembled the modern genus Sprekelia, illustrated here.
