Description
Early Eocene
Green River Formation
Kemmerer, Wyoming, USA
24mm x 49mm flower on 112mm slab.
Flower, Angiosperm.
Flowers are rather rare in the fossil record due to their fragility but they occur where fine-grained sediments preserve other organisms that also seem to be unlikely candidates for fossilization.
This specimen comes from a time when angiosperms (flowering plants) were well on their way to dominating many ecosystems once held by conifers.
Nice specimen – almost looks like a painting.
