Description
Insect
Early Eocene
Green River Formation
Douglas Pass, Colorado, USA
Two insects, 6mm and 5mm on 53mm slab with leaf.
The modern insect orders had appeared by the Eocene but that doesn’t make all fossils from that time on easy to identify. Entomologists say that compression-type fossils are tougher to ID than amber inclusions because compression specimens are a little distorted and you get just that one view. Amber allows a 3D view from different angles.
Here’s a nice association piece for those who like the little sample of a fauna that an association provides.
