Description
Dickinsonia costata
Ediacaran
Late Precambrian (Vendian)
Rawnsley Quartzite
South Australia
Excellent CAST of a 40mm specimen on 74mm slab.
Dickinsonia is a genus of one of the earliest macroscopic animals in the fossil record. It’s known from Precambrian-age rocks of Australia and Russia and is one of the animals we envision when we think of the Ediacara fauna. Yeah, that’s the one that looks like a fingerprint.
Specimens are hardly ever on the market, and when they are, they can be rather faint and expensive. You might as well get a nice cast like this one instead.
Casts are affordable visual aids to fossil collectors, museum curators, and science teachers. They are life-size copies of actual fossils which fit well with fossil displays of all kinds.
