Ediacaria is a genus erected for a seemingly simple form first found in the Ediacara Hills, Australia. It has been interpreted as a jellyfish, other animals, and even a large microbial colony. Not so simple.
It’s also unusual for its chronologic range as it’s known from before the Vendian Period and into the Early Cambrian.
Fine example of this ancient oddity of nature.
